Do you need planning permission for a garden room?

If you’re not planning on using your garden room for overnight stays or to live and sleep in, in most cases, a garden room or building will not require planning permission as long as it adheres to building regulations and permitted development guidelines.

However, for those looking to rent their garden room, appropriate planning permission will be needed. And the garden room must meet building regulations. More information, including how to apply for planning permission for overnight stays can be found here.

How to prepare your garden room for short let stays

Once you’ve ensured that you have the right permissions, there are several things you can do to help to guarantee that your space is ready for guests:

  1. Ensure you have an insulated garden room if you’re looking to rent out your garden room during the winter months.
  2. Keep your space clean and well-maintained, and make sure to address any maintenance issues quickly.
  3. Connect electricity to your garden room so that you can offer amenities such as Wi-Fi or a TV.
  4. If you want to offer a separate bathroom for guests, considering installing a toilet and shower in your garden room.
  5. Create a listing on Airbnb by taking high-quality photos of your space and writing a detailed and engaging description of your garden room. Try to highlight its unique features and amenities.
  6. Include information about the surrounding area and local attractions to give guests a sense of the area.
  7. Be responsive to inquiries and questions from potential guests, and make sure to follow up with them promptly.

With a bit of preparation and attention to detail, your garden room can make a tremendous short stay rental. To look at our range of bespoke garden rooms, please visit: https://crownpavilions.com/blog/sleeping-and-living-in-garden-room/
