We all know and love the idea of a luxury garden gym room. It provides the perfect solution for fitness enthusiasts looking for a convenient and comfortable space to work out. Our Crown Pavilions luxury outdoor garden gym is thoughtfully designed to offer an easily accessible, private training space any time of the day, all year round. Unsurprisingly, we have seen the number of garden gym room designs and installations skyrocket in these last few years.
Our experienced team will listen carefully to your needs and requirements and recommend customisations for your new outdoor gym to ensure it’s a perfect fit for you and your workout style.
We’ve teamed up with one of our designers, Matthew Cheeseman, to create a detailed guide for designing your dream outdoor gym, covering every essential aspect.
Outdoor Garden Gym Dimensions
When designing your garden gym, it’s important to consider the available space and height restrictions to create a functional and comfortable workout environment. For most setups, a 5m x 4m area works well, providing plenty of room for gym equipment and space to stretch and cool down. However, if you want a simpler layout consisting of perhaps just a spin bike or treadmill and weights, a 3m x 3m garden room can be enough.
For those of you looking to create a more versatile and elaborate space, a large garden room like the Heritage 6.0 is the perfect choice. Popular among many of our customers, its spacious design and pitched roof provide ample natural light, creating an ideal and comfortable environment to work out in.
Another factor to think about regarding your garden gym dimensions is your building height. Our garden rooms typically fall within permitted development guidelines, which usually allow a height of up to 2.5 metres without requiring planning permission. Depending on your preference, you could even go up to a total height of 4m with a pitched roof.
Walling and Flooring
To ensure your flooring remains in good condition for prolonged use, it’s important to choose a durable option. Our garden gym floors are constructed from engineered oak, which is far superior to laminate flooring. However, the type of flooring needed can vary based on your gym activities. For instance, high-intensity exercises or heavy weights require a sturdier and stronger base, while a yoga studio or light cardio setup may require different flooring. If you plan to use free weights, we recommend installing commercial-grade interlocking foam or rubber tiles to protect your timber flooring from damage. This is why we install the finished floor on top of a screeded base instead of an insulated timber sub floor. We can assist you in designing the ideal flooring solution to suit your current and future needs.
For example, the walls of our Premium Collection garden rooms – such as the Crown Sandringham, Clarence, and Buckingham models – are 190mm thick, which aligns with TRADA guidelines. They feature 90mm Celotex and thermally efficient Rockwool slabs, ensuring year-round warmth and comfort for your winter workouts. Furthermore, each garden room can be customised with vibrant, UV-resistant external cladding, keeping your garden gym looking pristine for years to come.
Additionally, our doors and windows are crafted from premium-grade aluminium and finished with precision spray painting completed at our Oxfordshire workshop. We use high-specification double glazing featuring PLANITHERM 4S, renowned for its superior insulation properties, to ensure a consistently comfortable indoor temperature, perfect for working out in.
To enhance ventilation and keep you cool in the summer, our bi-fold doors can be fully opened to welcome refreshing breezes. For even greater airflow, you can customise your garden gym with additional windows and doors.
We also offer the option to install an efficient, wall-mounted air conditioning unit, which is an incredibly popular choice for our gym buildings. This unit provides precise temperature regulation, keeping you comfortable in both summer and winter, making it an excellent addition to your garden gym.
Plumbing and Electricity
All our garden gym rooms come equipped with high-quality brushed stainless-steel switches, sockets, and dimmers as standard – unlike competitors who often charge extra for these features. Each garden gym room includes pre-wired lighting and sockets, ready for all gym equipment to be up and running to ensure a hassle-free setup.
For added comfort and functionality, we offer optional electric heating and air conditioning units – these are available as upgrades. Additionally, we can integrate extra amenities like bathrooms for convenience, or saunas and steam rooms for the ultimate relaxation after your gym session. Just let us know your preferences, and we will provide a tailored quote to meet your specific needs, ensuring your garden gym is perfectly suited to your needs and lifestyle.
Garden Gym Equipment
Space is often limited in garden gyms, making efficient design crucial. Our garden room designers specialise in creating floor plans that optimise available space, fitting in a wide range of equipment into compact areas. Even with the average size of our rooms of just 15-20m ², you would be surprised at how much can be achieved with the right design approach.
Certain types of equipment are especially well-suited for garden gyms. Our favourite TRX training systems are highly space-efficient and offer a full-body workout without requiring much room. We also have extensive experience reinforcing walls to accommodate TRX hooks, yoga swings, straps, or even a punching bag, ensuring your home gym is both functional and versatile.
A luxury outdoor garden gym is a valuable addition to your home and lifestyle. By carefully planning dimensions, walling, flooring, and extra amenities, you can create a functional space tailored to your fitness needs. Whether you’re looking for a simple setup or a fully equipped fitness sanctuary, our expert team is here to help bring your vision to life.
