The Three Lions may have fallen short, but England fan Kevin Burdett is still celebrating after getting his hands on a World Cup prize thanks to his amazing TV room set up.
Kevin was chosen as the winner of Crown Pavilions' World Cup customer competition after sharing photographs of himself and his family watching the tournament from the comfort of the Clarence garden room installed at his home.
The photos netted Coventry fan Kevin a luxury Fortnum & Mason hamper just in time to celebrate his club side's return to the Premier League for the upcoming season.
The competition invited customers to share pictures of how they were enjoying the World Cup from their Crown Pavilions garden buildings.
A lifesaver from day one
For Kevin, the prize was the icing on the cake for a garden room that has transformed the way his family uses their home since it was installed in 2019. It proved especially valuable just months after it was completed, when the COVID-19 lockdowns saw millions of people begin working from home.
"The timing of our build was a lifesaver," Kevin said. "Having a separate office from the main house really helps with working from home and I still use it for work a couple of days each week."
The family's entertainment hub
Away from work, the building has become the family's entertainment hub.
"We use it all year round. It's brilliant in the summer with the bi-fold doors open, but with the heaters it's just as comfortable in winter. I have a 65-inch TV at one end so it's like having our own personal cinema," Kevin added.
The room has also become home to Kevin's collection of sports and music memorabilia, with signed shirts and photographs covering the walls — and even one signed Coventry City shirt displayed on the ceiling.
"I've even got a beer fridge in there so I don't need to leave the room during a big sporting event," he said.
Kevin watched the World Cup with his youngest son, Joseph.
"We're huge football fans and enjoyed every game from the garden room. We also love watching boxing in there.
"My eldest son Daniel is a massive Star Wars and sci-fi fan, so we'll often watch films together, while my wife Helen and I enjoy using it for movie nights too. The children have also hosted parties there because having a detached space is perfect for larger family get-togethers."
Seven years on, still impressing
Seven years after installation, Kevin says the quality of the building continues to impress.
"The quality is absolutely fantastic and the building still looks great. The stone cladding has aged really well and everyone who visits comments on how good it looks," he said.
"The installation of our garden room has been an absolute game changer for how we use our property. I would thoroughly recommend anyone thinking about getting one to just do it."
Crown Pavilions' founder Luke Dejahang said: "Kevin's photographs perfectly captured what our competition was all about: creating memorable moments with family and friends in a space designed to be enjoyed all year round.
"His garden room is a fantastic example of how these spaces evolve beyond their original purpose, becoming home offices, entertainment rooms and places where families can spend quality time together, and he was a very worthy winner."
