You might be considering investing in an outdoor garden gym so you can work out in style and comfort. However, you might be wondering whether you can get all the equipment you need into your garden building.

Here, we’ll break down all the different gym equipment we can create a space for and highlight some important things you should consider…

Garden gym considerations

Before you can think about getting all your gym equipment into your luxury garden building, there are important things you need to consider.

Something that is crucial to keep in mind is what ceiling height you are going to require.

If you were to have a ceiling that is too low, you might not get all the equipment you want to fit into your garden gym.

At Crown Pavilions our garden buildings as standard are designed to meet the permitted development height rule of 2.5m which is needed if the building is going to be situated within 1m of a boundary line. At this level, your ceiling height will be around 2.1m.

You need to consider if all your equipment will fit into your garden gym with a 2.1m ceiling height. We recommend having a ceiling height of at least 2.4m to ensure most equipment fits.

However, you might need even more room depending on your exercise and equipment needs. So, a height of 2.8m to 3.0m might be the way to go to make sure. This does mean though that your garden gym would have to be at least 2m away from any boundary lines.

Other important things to consider include having the right changing facilities, air conditioning and heaters, lighting and electrics, reinforced floors to hold heavy equipment and mirrors and TRX hooks.

Essential equipment for any garden gym

The great news is that a Crown Pavilion garden gym can be built with enough space to include all the essential equipment you need.

If you have properly considered everything from ceiling height to other facilities, we will craft a garden building that can support equipment for the following functions:

Strength training equipment

Strength training is a key component of most fitness routines. If working on your core strength is something that is important for you, consider getting the following equipment.

Free Weights: Dumbbells and kettlebells are versatile and can be used for a variety of exercises. They are perfect for building muscle and improving strength.

Resistance Bands: These are great for adding resistance to your workouts without taking up much space. They can be used for exercises targeting different muscle groups.

Weight Bench: A sturdy bench is essential for exercises like bench presses, step-ups, and other strength training routines.

Cardio equipment

Cardiovascular exercise is important for heart health and overall fitness. If you want your garden gym to be set up to help improve your cardio workouts, consider the following equipment.

Skipping Rope: A simple yet effective tool for getting your heart rate up. It’s portable and can be used anywhere in your garden.

Treadmill: If you have the space and budget, a treadmill can be a great addition for running or walking workouts. Imagine being able to run on a treadmill whilst being the beauty of your own garden.

Stationary Bike: Another excellent option for cardio workouts. It’s perfect for cycling enthusiasts who want to train at home.

Flexibility and recovery equipment

Flexibility and recovery are often overlooked but are essential for a balanced fitness routine. If you are keen to ensure you recover correctly from your garden workouts, consider the following equipment.

Yoga Mat: A comfortable mat is great for stretching, yoga, and floor exercises. It provides cushioning and support so you can cool down in comfort.

Foam Roller: Great for muscle recovery and relieving tension. Foam rollers can help improve flexibility and reduce muscle soreness.

Exercise Ball: Useful for a variety of exercises that improve balance and core strength. It’s also great for stretching routines.
